A good trip starts with checking before departure.

  • Postpone fishing if there is a risk of rough seas or swell, or if access is restricted. A breakwater cannot be assumed to be a safe alternative.
  • Wear a life jacket and avoid entering tetrapod areas. Check closed seasons, prohibited fish-size limits and local harvesting rules.
  • Tide data are predicted water levels at observation stations, not current speeds. Gridded wind and wave forecasts for an area may differ from conditions at the actual fishing spot.

Internal planning caution threshold: reconsider the trip at wind speeds of 8m/s or above, or wave heights of 1.5m or above. This is neither an official weather-alert threshold nor a safety assessment; conditions below it do not guarantee safety.
