Planning a tax refund before you fly?
First check where you actually leave South Korea. A domestic flight from Jeju and a direct international flight can lead to different airport steps.
Which flight leaves Jeju?
Find the airport for your flight that leaves South Korea. If the first flight is Jeju → Seoul or Busan, it is a domestic leg.
Before going to the airport
- Look for a receipt or voucher marked Tax Refund. An ordinary shop receipt alone does not establish eligibility.
- Keep your passport, refund vouchers and eligible unused goods accessible for any requested customs check.
- Confirm whether the store already gave an immediate tax refund, so you do not expect a second refund.
- Allow time for airport procedures and verify details with the refund operator. The refund amount depends on the voucher and provider.
The Korea Tourism Organization guide says qualifying goods generally need a purchase of at least KRW 15,000; other eligibility conditions also apply.
