Sea & Coast

Hyeopjae & Geumneung Beaches

Full narration

Hyeopjae and Geumneung are two of the best-known beaches on Jeju’s west coast. Shallow waters stretch far out from the white sand, shimmering in layers of emerald and sky blue in the sunlight. Just across the water, seemingly close enough to touch, is Biyangdo Island. Records say it was formed by a volcanic eruption a thousand years ago, earning it the nickname “the thousand-year-old island.” Hyeopjae and Geumneung sit side by side, so you can enjoy both beaches on a leisurely walk along the sand. With shallow, colorful waters spreading out beside the shore, it’s also a lovely place for a seaside stroll with children. Take a moment to notice how the sea changes color with the sunlight.
